Academics and Curriculum
The Scots Advantage provides boys with a variety of pathways that allow them to express and develop their gifts and talents, within a holistic philosophy of education. From our youngest students in the Early Years and Early Learning Centre through to Year 12, Scots boys are challenged physically, spiritually and academically through a variety of purposefully curated sporting and learning pathways.
Rose Bay Early Years Centre (Scots Rose Bay)
The Rose Bay Early Years Centre (Scots Rose Bay) nurtures and educates three and four year old boys whilst offering long day care at Rose Bay. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia education philosophy, Scots Rose Bay is a place of adventure, growth and learning. The aim of the program is to support the boys’ natural curiosity, eagerness to learn and their love of communication with others, in a nurturing childcare centre environment.
Early Learning Centre (Transition to Year 1)
At the Early Learning Centre, we understand that young boys are active discoverers. The Centre’s environment is intentionally designed to lead and equip the youngest Scots boys by harnessing their natural curiosity and energy. Our expert staff come alongside each boy to help them explore new ideas with confidence, build courage and develop a love for learning.
As students graduate from the Early Learning Centre into the Preparatory School, they are led to continue to grow in their literacy and numeracy skills but are introduced to further areas of learning, including the Arts, creativity, humanities, languages and sciences. Preparatory School boys are also given the opportunity to discover their areas of gifting by taking part in Co-Curricular Activities programs.
The Senior School not only offers the mandated NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) curriculum but a holistic education taught by expert teachers to equip them to flourish in the 21st century.
In addition, our Glengarry program is a catalyst to a boy’s maturity; our careers education program helps them to appropriately and prayerfully consider the appropriate direction for the Senior years at the College; and the diverse collection of HSC subjects and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses to choose from, allows Scots boys to pursue their interests and their God-given calling.
The Scots College provides numerous opportunities to its students to actively encourage their curiosity, bravely and boldly explore society and build resilience for an ever-changing world.
The Preparatory School and Senior School are supported by the College’s Brave Hearts Bold Minds education philosophy, which includes its character building philosophies that underpin all academic, co-curricular and sporting programs at the College. For the Preparatory School it is A Fine Scots Boy! The Positive Behavioural Plan, while the Senior School develops student learning through its i.C.A.R.E principles. The Scots College offers a holistic education across all its department areas:
