Scots Old Boys win gold at the World Masters
The Scots College Old Boys proved that they still have what it takes in the Rugby and Rowing stakes winning gold in the Sydney World Masters Games held 10 to 17 October.
Members of the Mosman Rowing crew, Robert (Rupert) Wright (class of '56) and Rob Drury (class of '62) won gold in the Mens G coxed four final under the direction of Coach Steve Gordon (class of '72). Mr Drury also took three gold and a bronze in other rowing events.
Playing as part of the Mosman Whales Rugby Team in the 45+ category, six Old Boys relived the rivalry of their College days, tackling Rugby to remain undefeated throughout the Games and going on to win the final 15-0 against Old Thistles with several Knox Old Boys.
Part of the gold medal winning team were Old Boys Doug Brudenall-Woods (class of
'79), Colin Scotts (class of '81), Richard Scotts (class of '82),Stewart Robinson (class of '82), Peter Taylor (class of '79) John Walters (class of '78), together with current Scots parents Craig Meller and John Wilson.
These Old Boys were respective members of The Scots College elite teams in their College years and their passion for the sport has lived on in their adult life:
- 1st VIII rowing teams (Wright '56 and Drury '62); and
- 1st XV rugby teams (Walters '78 -GPS Premiers, Taylor '79 - 2nd XV GPS Premiers, Woods '79, C Scotts '81 and R Scotts '82).
"Scots boys are inspired by generations of Old Boys before them.
