College Council

The majority of Council members are elected by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, with three further members appointed by the elected members.The Scots College Council is responsible for general policy decisions and the financial administration of the College, with the general administration of the College delegated to the College Principal. The business and finance side of the administration of the College is in turn handled by the Director of Finance.

Chairman
Mr Simon Fraser

Simon Fraser, BA, LLM (Hons). Simon is a solicitor who is a Partner in the Property Group of CBP Lawyers. He has been a member of the Council since 1988. He was Chairman of Council from 1998 to 2008 and was again elected as Chairman in August 2012. He has also served on the Council at PLC Armidale and was for a time the Chairman of that Council. He is the Law Agent (solicitor) for the Presbyterian Church in New South Wales, and for the Presbyterian Church of Australia.

Deputy Chairman
Dr Gillian Heard

Gillian Heard, BSc, PhD, Grad Cert (Univ L&T), Dip Qual Auditing, Cert IV TAA. Gillian has had more than 25 years experience in education, much of that time spent at the University of New South Wales working in both food science and technology and staff development. She is now a partner in The Learning Community, supporting organisations in planning, compliance, capability and leadership development. Gillian is married with three children, two of whom are Old Boys of the College. She has been a member of the College Council since 2005 and was elected Deputy Chairman in August 2012.

Secretary
Mr Rod Simpson

Rod Simpson, BEc, LLB, FCIS, FCSA, FFin. Rod is the Managing Partner at the law firm Simpson Partners Business Lawyers. He was previously the Head of Legal and Risk at Steinhoff Asia Pacific, the operator of the Freedom Furniture and Snooze brands. He is married to Caroline and has three young children. Rod has been a member of Council since 2010 and Secretary since 2011.

Mr Philip Mitchell

Philip Mitchell, BA (Asian Studies) (Hons), LLB (Hons). Philip is a Partner, member of the Board and Head of the International Business and Corporate Finance Group at the law firm TressCox. He has two sons currently enrolled at the College and one son who is an Old Boy. He has been a member of Council since 1998 and was Chairman from 2008 to 2012.

Rev. Bruce Christian

Bruce Christian, ME, BD (Hons). Bruce worked for 10 years as a civil engineer before entering the ministry of the Presbyterian Church. He has now retired from the ministry, having served the Church for five years at Engadine and nearly 29 years at Rose Bay. He has been a member of Council since 1983. He has served as both New South Wales Moderator and Moderator-General of the Presbyterian Church of Australia. He has five married children, two of whom are sons who were both educated at the College. He is currently working part time as Chaplain at Sutherland Shire Christian School.

Rev. Ewen Brown

Ewen Brown, BDS. Ewen is Minister of Bexley-Rockdale Presbyterian Church. He previously worked as a dentist in West Wyalong, Finley, Epping, Caringbah, Revesby and Earlwood. He has lived and worked in Yemen as a medical missionary where he also studied Arabic and Islamics. He is an Old Boy of the College and parent of three Old Boys. He has been a member of Council since 1991.

Mr Ben Graham

Ben Graham, BCom (Finance & Economics), CFP. Ben ('93) is the Director of Blue Summit Financial Solutions, a boutique financial planning practice located in Sydney. Ben is an Old Boy of the College. He is married to Angela and has three young children. Ben has been a member of council since 2008.

Mr Andrew Leithhead

Andrew Leithhead, BCom, FFin, JP. Andrew is a senior executive in the International & Institutional Banking Division of Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Ltd. He has worked in the financial services industry for over 30 years, in Sydney and in New York. He is a director of ANZ Equities Limited and is President of the Australian Racing Drivers' Club. He is married to Irene and has two sons currently enrolled at the College. Andrew became a member of Council in 2009.

Mr Bill McLaren

Bill McLaren, BBus (Accounting). Bill is an advisor to the Aged Care Industry having working in the Health Services for over 10 Years. Bill, with his accounting qualifications, has worked in many varied businesses from Metal Trades and Aviation to Retail. Bill is an Old Boy of The Scots School, originally established as a branch school of the College during WWII. He is married to Erica and has two adult children and four wonderful grandchildren. This is Bill's second time as a member of Council.

Mr Jeof Falls

Jeof Falls, BEc, MBA. Jeof is a director of the Organisational Research, Strategy and Leadership consultancy, Measured Insights. In a voluntary capacity, he is also Chairman of Trustees of the Presbyterian Church of Australia in NSW and sits on a number of the church's school councils and boards including Presbyterian Aged Care. Jeof has been an ex-officio member of Council since 2001.

Rev. Bruce Meller

Bruce Meller, BD (Hons), ThL (Hons) MA (Theol). Bruce is married to Lorraine and has three adult children. He has been a Presbyterian minister since 1980, serving the Church in country NSW and at Hurstville before becoming the Superintendent of the Ministry & Mission Committee in 1999. As the founding Chairman of the Ballina Christian School and then a Director and Chairman of the St George Christian School, Bruce has 20 years' experience in school governance and a deep personal commitment to best-practice in that area. He also has a long-standing concern for, and a research interest in, Biblical conflict resolution.

Rev. Dr Martin Spadaro

Martin Spadaro, BA, MDiv, ThM, PhD, Cert IV TAA. Martin is the minister of St. Andrew's Scots Presbyterian Church in Rose Bay. He has been in pastoral ministry for 25 years and has lectured in Biblical Studies at Westminster Theological College (WA) and Melbourne School of Theology. Martin is married to Katherine and has two teenage children. Martin joined the Council in 2012.
